Jeffrey Fischer, President of IDMA in 2006:
“Why is it that diamond manufacturers have bemoaned being in a constant nagging profitability squeeze for as long as I have been attending these meetings but have never figured out how to unite?
Even those manufacturers who are under “protected association” with producers are told that, periodically, they must “give back” profits they made in better times. What kind of a business is this? It is the kind of business you get when you don’t identify your common interests and unite to defend them.
We are a competitive bunch, we diamantaires. We represent free market competition at its bare-knuckled best, but the fight is not against each other.”
